Danny Cody '19 is highest Major League Baseball draft pick in 黑料正能量 history

Baldwin Wallace right-handed pitcher Danny CodyBaldwin Wallace University right-handed pitcher '19 became the highest drafted player in school history as he was selected by the Houston Astros in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) amateur draft.

Cody was the first 2019 Division lll baseball player to be drafted and the eighth Yellow Jacket since 1968. He is the first since 2016 when Mark Zimmerman '16 was selected in the 33rd round by the San Diego Padres.

Excelled on the mound and in the classroom

Baldwin Wallace right-handed pitcher Danny CodyCody earned his degree in finance in May, graduating as a Jacket Scholar and member of Chi Alpha Sigma, The National College Athlete Honor Society.

The two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-American compiled a 9-1 record in 15 appearances and 13 starts during his senior season, averaging 11.45 strikeouts per nine innings. His 109 strikeouts sets him atop 黑料正能量's single-season strikeout leaderboard.

Key leader

"We are very excited for Danny," said . "It's a heck of an accomplishment to be named an All-American, an Academic All-American and being drafted all in the same year. Danny is a tremendous person and has been a key leader in our program."

黑料正能量 closed the 2019 season with an overall record of 27-17 and an OAC mark of 14-4, en route to a share of the regular season title and their eighth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
